Lake Como is an idyllic location, much-loved by celebrities and socialites looking to show-off their worth whilst also enjoying the quiet, slow lifestyle this picturesque lake offers. With its wealth of jaw-dropping villas and flashy cars, it’ll come as no surprise that Lake Como was one of the filming locations for the 2006 Bond movie Casino Royale – the fancy Michelin-starred restaurants, expensive boats and classy hotels are a great fit for Bond’s lifestyle.

It may be known for its expensive lifestyle, but you don’t have to spend thousands to enjoy Lake Como’s splendours. You’ll find many welcoming trattorias offering sublime yet affordable menus, lots of cute cafes for your daily coffee fix, and lovely museums including the Museo Del Ciclismo which is a big hit with avid cyclists. Take the time to explore some of the incredible landscaped gardens too, and enjoy a boat ride for a new view of the impressive landscape.

The seafood is phenomenal here too – no surprise there – with popular dishes including white risotto with fish plucked straight from the lake and sun-dried lake shad, which are like sardines. Don’t miss out on enjoying a creamy gelato as you wander through the streets, and taking advantage of the tasty mix of family trattorias and fancy Michelin-starred restaurants.

·         As you explore Lake Como, you’ll be met with incredible neoclassical villas dotted along the rolling hills. Boasting jaw-dropping grandeur and spectacular manicured gardens, they are well worth exploring. We recommend visiting the dramatic gardens of Villa Balbianello and Villa Carlotta – they are both fabulous examples of architectural design. Meanwhile, there are also lots of splendid ancient paths for you to discover, which detail Lake Como’s past whilst also highlighting the natural beauty.

Como and Bellagio are the most popular, Como for its charming town centre filled with boutiques and cafes and Bellagio for its fabulous villas overlooking the lake. We also love Cernobbio for its stand-out coffee shops and picturesque vistas, and Varenna’s introduction to Lake Como’s more traditional architecture and lifestyle.
