Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta
Overview
Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta is built almost into the bastion walls of Valletta between the capital and the sea. To one side of the hotel is Marsamxett Harbour and panoramic views across the water to Manoel Island and Sliema, while on the other are the fortifications of Valletta whose main gate is just a few minutes’ walk away.
Rooms are airy and spacious, modern but traditional in style. Sea-view rooms are particularly large and have French windows leading to individual balconies, many the size of small terraces overlooking the harbour. Most of these rooms have 200-degree views taking in Valletta’s bastion walls and sweeping across the harbour.
The hotel has the most extensive buffets in Malta; huge spreads including foods from all round the world. And the food is good. Even at breakfast choices range from the makings of full English to pancakes, smoked tuna, cold meats, olives, capers and dried tomatoes, and fresh ricotta as well as copious pastries, yoghurts, cereals etc. There is an enormous buffet each evening, as well as an à la carte menu. Sunday lunch offers everything from traditional roast to sushi and almost everything in between.
The hotel has the most extensive facilities of any hotel in or around Valletta with a gym, spa, sizeable indoor and outdoor pools, its own yacht marina and plenty of space both inside, and out on the harbourside terraces.
