Tenerife Holidays
Known as the island of eternal spring, Tenerife is one of the most popular Spanish islands and a favourite for winter-sun getaways. Take a break from the busy south coast and you’ll discover an enticing world of volcanic fields, jaw-dropping mountains, ancient towns and quieter coves.
A beautiful destination year-round
When we want to escape the bitter cold that England’s winter brings, one of our favourite places to visit is the beautiful island of Tenerife. Offering blissful sunshine and warm temperatures year-round, Tenerife is a little slice of paradise.
We’ve selected luxurious hotels that boast unsurpassable locations in the capital city of Santa Cruz. Lined by golden sand beaches and home to the vibrant Playa la Americas strip adorned with restaurants, bars and clubs, and fantastic land and water activities to keep the whole family entertained, Santa Cruz is the place to be if you want to soak up the fun side of Tenerife.
If you’re hoping to experience the island’s wilder side, the north is just an hour’s drive away and offers a completely different landscape. The north is incredibly lush and green, lined by curious black sand beaches reachable by foot.
No matter where you decide you visit, you’ll soon discover why Tenerife is such a popular destination, and why holidaymakers return here year after year. A laidback atmosphere, a penchant for having fun and glorious sunshine is just the start.
Why visit Tenerife?
- The first thing you’ll notice when you arrive in Tenerife is the looming backdrop of Pico del Teide, Spain’s tallest mountain. We’ve experienced some of the best star-gazing here, leaving the urban light pollution behind and gaining incredibly clear night skies. It’s also a brilliant place to hike, giving you the chance to experience barren terrain and discover 12 endemic species, including dainty alhelí flowers.
- Despite being a well-known beach destination, Tenerife is steeped in culture and adventure, too. Venture to the old capital, La Laguna, and you’ll be greeted with historic buildings including the convent of Santa Catalina de la Siena and the San Miguel Chapel. Whale and dolphin watching is a popular pastime – seeing bottlenose dolphins racing your boat and pilot whales in the distance is an incredible memory. Tenerife is also home to Europe’s largest lava tube system, Cueva del Viento, which makes for a great day out.
- Enjoy delicious local food, washed down with decadent wines. Of course, the main strip in Santa Cruz has a few tourist-catered restaurants, but we much prefer the local eateries that offer regional cuisine. We’re sure you’ll be tempted by paps arrugadas con mojos – small potatoes cooked in salt water until wrinkled and then doused in punchy green or red mojo sauce. The avocados here are soft as butter, and the bananas are amazing too. The fertile volcanic soil here has helped to create a variety of verdant vineyards with sensational wine tasting.
