Flight and Transfers

Visa Requirements
Irish passport holders can stay visa-free for 90 days. Please check up to date requirements with the Department of Foreign Affairs or the Embassy.
Language
The official languages are Cantonese and English. In practice, everyone speaks Cantonese while English is common as a second language, but far from universal. The younger the person, the more likely they are to speak at least reasonable English. However, the fact that English is an official language means government offices are required to have English-speaking staff on duty.
Transportation
Hong Kong has an extensive underground Mass Transit Railway (MTR) and it’s generally the quickest and easiest way to get around. There are also dependable systems of buses, trams and taxis. Renting a car is a bad idea unless your idea of a great time is relentless gridlock traffic jams, aggressive drivers and gold-dust parking spaces.
Currency
While it is known colloquially as the Hong Kong Dollar, the Yuen is the official currency.
