It’s an early start this morning, meeting your guide at 7am for your transfer to the speedboat at Tan Cang pier. Once on board the speedboat, you’ll enjoy a light breakfast and iced coffee as you speed across the water and marvel at the lush jungle views. Travelling in this way means that you’ll reach the Cu Chi Tunnels before the big bus tours arrive, giving you a quieter experience as you explore the tunnel.

After a brief introductory video, you’ll enjoy a fascinating tour of the site, including weapon and booby trap exhibitions, the Viet Cong tunnel, underground bunkers, a firing range and more. We recommend trying a taste of the local cassava root, which sustained the Viet Cong fighters for years.

Next is a traditional Vietnamese lunch by the river, including divine Vietnamese soup and fried spring rolls, before your speedboat back to Saigon.

Breakfast and lunch included.

Day 9

Mekong Delta

After a hearty breakfast, you will transfer to the Cai Be jetty to board the Cai Be Princess sampan. Sailing towards Tan Phong Islet, you’ll enjoy a refreshing drink as you observe life along the river, including beautiful views of the verdant landscape and locals getting on with their day.

Upon arrival at Tan Phong Islet, you’ll enjoy a delightful cycling trip through the fruit gardens and colourful villages, looking out for the islet’s special fruit – the sweet, red and spiky rambutan. Other stops include visits to local cottage industries, where you’ll meet families making everything from rice flour cakes and rice paper, to coconut frond roof panels and homeware created with water hyacinths.

Next up is a trip on board a rowing sampan, guiding you through narrow canals back to the awaiting Cai Be Princess, which will continue on to the village of Phu An. Here you’ll find Longanier Restaurant, a colonial-style villa surrounded by lush fruit trees and offering an insight into how the privileged class lived in Indochina times. After lunch, you’ll walk towards Ba Bon Bridge where your personal car will meet you to drive you back to Ho Chi Minh City.

(Please note: this day’s itinerary depends on river tide, arrival time and weather conditions)

One of the biggest highlights is visiting Ta Prohm, an impressive temple covered in jungle flora, including towering fig trees and creepers that wind around the stone foundations.

Breakfast included.

Day 12

Siem Reap

After breakfast, you will discover the charming floating village of Kompong Pluk, boarding a wood boat for a closer look at the Cambodian houses on stilts and the flooded forest. The boat ride ends with an exploration of Tonle Sap lake to watch fishermen go about their day. Back on land, you’ll visit the Chantiers Ecoles – Les Artisans d’Angkor – an initiative that provides workshops for young Cambodians to revive the ancient Khmer traditions of stone carving and wood sculpting.

Breakfast included.

Overnight (3 nights): Standard - Le Bel Air Resort I Superior - Satri House

Day 14

Luang Prabang

You have the opportunity to experience Laos’ most special and sacred tradition today. Wake as the sun rises to take part in the morning alms giving, where more than 200 Bhuddist monks leave their temple to receive a daily meal from the faithful residents waiting quietly on the streets – a daily ritual that dates back to the 14th century. Afterwards, you’ll continue on to the temporary morning market that takes place at the former Royal Palace, to take in the sights and smells of fresh vegetables and fish.

Next up is the Royal Palace Museum, built in 1904 for King Sisavang Vong and his family. You’ll then enjoy a cruise along the Mekong River to the Pak Ou Caves – two linked caves adorned with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues left by pilgrims. You’ll also stop by the village of Ban Xanghai to see how they make local rice wine.

Back in the city, you’ll visit the Wat Xiengthong to discover a magnificent piece of Lao temple architecture – the ornate mosaics are stunning, especially the ‘tree of life’ glass montage on the rear temple wall. From there, you’ll continue to Wat Prabath for a wonderful sunset, before a lively trip to the famous Night Market, where you can shop for handmade textiles created by the local people.

Breakfast included.
