This hotel is good for the soul. Located in the Baa Atoll and framed by a phenomenal UNESCO-protected biosphere reserve, the hotel offers a sustainable island getaway with a stylish laidback vibe. Part of Seaside Collection, a European boutique hotel chain, Finolhu Baa Atoll was the first resort in the Maldives to become a member of Design Hotels.

This is an amazing place to see marine life. One day you may see a pod of dolphins whilst eating your lunch, and the next day you could be on speedboat making your way to see the manta rays at Hanifaru Bay (from May to November).

The villas are decorated in vibrant colour, matching beautifully with their surrounds. Either nestled on the sugary sand beach or perched above the lagoon, all of the villas provide lots of space for families and fabulous views. We love the private gardens each beach villa offers, whilst the water villas have gorgeous wooden sun decks with direct access to the lagoon.

The restaurants offer round-the-world dining, including modern Japanese cuisine at Kanusan, and rich North African flavours at Arabian Grill. Crab Shack is one of our favourites, serving delicious beach-inspired cuisine in a rustic beach hut.

There are plenty of great activities to get stuck in to during your time here. Snorkelling in the lagoon, a soothing yoga class, even an arts and crafts studio – there’s plenty to do in between soaking up the sun. For young guests there’s the kid’s club Oceaneers, providing a playground, a shallow pool with slides and plenty of fun activities.

  • Beach Villa – 205sqm villas located on the beach, with a private garden with an outdoor lounging area. Sleeps three adults or two adults and two children. An extra bed is available.
  • Beach Pool Villa – 205sqm villas nestled on the beach, boasting a private garden with a freshwater pool, a small dining area and lounge furnishings, direct access to the beach and a sofa bed. Sleeps three adults or two adults and two children.
  • Private Pool Villa – 205sqm villas located at the back of the island, featuring a private garden just a few steps away from the lagoon. Features an outdoor lounging area and private freshwater pool. Sleeps three adults or two adults and two children. An extra bed is available.
  • Two Bedroom Water Villas with Pool – 460sqm villas located on stilts above the lagoon. Featuring two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious living room, and an expansive sun deck with lounge furnishings, a cabana swing, an 8m private pool and direct ocean access. Sleeps six adults, or four adults and four children.
  • Two Bedroom Beach Villas with Pool – 530sqm villas ideal for families. Located on the beach, the villas feature two master bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room and a private garden with direct beach access and a 10m pool. Sleeps six adults, or four adults and four children.
  • Two Bedroom Rockstar Ocean Pool Villa – One 460sqm villa located at the very end of the jetty above the lagoon. Boasting a private buggy for getting around, two master bedrooms, two bathrooms, a huge living room with a private bar, and a spacious sun deck with furnishings and an 8m long pool. Sleeps six adults, or four adults and four children.
  • Beach Bubble Tent – A unique experience. In a secluded location on the sandbank, the Finolhu Bubble features a double bed and a small bathroom, with a domed, clear exterior so you can sleep under the stars. You can even book a private beach barbecue and breakfast. Guests must have a minimum stay of 3 nights in a regular villa to book this experience.

  • Beach Kitchen – With lovely views of the pool and beach – and perhaps even sightings of dolphin pods – Beach Kitchen is a charming buffet restaurant offering delicious international cuisine for all meal times. Open 7.30am-10.30am, 1pm-3pm and 7.30pm-10pm.
  • Kanusan – A trendy fine dining restaurant perched on stilts above the lagoon. Enjoy a decadent menu of modern Japanese cuisine, including a cool sushi area and aperitif bar. The perfect spot for a romantic evening. Open 7.30pm-10.30pm.
  • Arabian Grill – A casual restaurant taking you on a tasty adventure across the Middle East and North Africa. Relish sumptuous mezzes of fish, meat and vegetables, adorned with delicate spices. Open 7.30pm-10.30pm.
  • Crab Shack – Boasting a tranquil location along the sandbanks, Crab Shack can be reached after a 20-minute stroll or a five-minute ride in the hotel’s traditional wooden boat, and has a fresh and zingy menu. Enjoying piri-piri chicken with a side of papaya salad and a glass of rosé with your feet in the sand – what could be better. Open 1pm-4pm and 6pm-9.30pm, and the bar open 12.30pm-5pm.
  • Beach Club – Should you want a bit of shade from the sun during the day, or a fun place to drink cocktails after dinner, Beach Club is the place to be. Dance barefoot in the sand along to DJ sets, or enjoy a quiet afternoon in the library in the upper part of the bar. Beach Bar open 10am-1am, Beach Club open 10am-6pm.
  • Milk LAB – A colourful grab-and-go bar offering great drinks including milkshakes, protein drinks and coffees alongside tasty snacks. You can even grab sun cream or souvenirs here. Open 11am-6pm.
  • Private Dining – The resort offers wonderful private dining experiences, including a floating breakfast or a private dinner on the beach.
